Winterizing your home to protect against snow and below-freezing temps can help your home withstand the ups, downs, and damages that could occur during the winter months. No matter where you live, winter can signal a dip in temperatures and the possibility of unpredictable weather, including inches of snow and dangerous ice. Xenia Heating & Air came up with a few tips to help you look over and utilize during the winter months.
- Seal Potential Leaks- Before cold weather comes, take time to insulate your home to keep the winter chill outside. You will want to go around your house inside and outside to ensure no leaks are hiding around.
- Use Window Sheet Kits– If you don’t have double-paned or storm windows, pick up a plastic-film sheet kit from your local hardware store. This isn’t a common one, so be sure to speak with someone that can help you.
- Insulate Pipes– Pipes that are located in attics, crawl spaces, basements, and near outer walls and can be susceptible to freezing in extreme temperatures. It is a good idea to insulate your pipes to help prevent them from freezing, or worse, bursting.
- Winterize Outdoor Faucets- You will want to remove all hoses or devices attached to outdoor spigots. Be sure to drain any water left behind in the pipes. Homeowners might think that leaving your faucets hooked up cannot harm your home; however, it will. So be sure to disconnect.
- Firewood– It is suggested to store your firewood in a dry place at least 30 feet from your home to avoid a fire hazard. We want to make sure you and your family stay safe.
Let’s make sure your home is safe from any damages or frozen pipes. Follow this list, and we can ensure you that this will help you prepare for the wintertime.
